Introducing riivin: the new sustainable interior design platform

in sustainable design

A sustainable interior design platform, an independently-led and content-driven project aimed at driving change and supporting the industry’s transition to more sustainable standards.

This is riivin…

the platform

riivin is a platform entirely dedicated to sustainable interior design options: responsible products as well as alternatives to purchasing new. The project is completely independent, with all content coming from the unsponsored daily research that underpins my work.

Product selection. The platform features a selection of more sustainable interior products organized into 9 product categories (furniture, lighting, accessories, textiles, tableware, finishes, office, bathroom, baby+kids). On riivin, big design names and emerging designers live side-by-side, and each product is presented with an explanation of what makes it a more sustainable choice, unveiling the many faces of sustainability while stimulating a nuanced approach.

Second-hand and renting. Choosing second-hand pieces and renting are becoming increasingly viable options. On riivin, this is covered with curated selections of second-hand online marketplaces, brands offering second-hand options, furniture rental platforms, and products available for rent.

Glossary. Sustainability is a wide topic that needs to be understood in its complexity. On riivin, a glossary with 100+ words covers aspects related to sustainability as a whole, the impact of design on the environment, as well as sustainable design strategies.

inside the process

The name riivin (pronounced /ˈrɪv.ɪŋ/ – like living with an r) is a compound of the word living plus a number of concepts that represent a sustainable attitude to design: responsibility, reinvention, restoration, reuse, respect. A name that wants to stress the role of living spaces in sustainable development.

This project comes from my firm belief in bottom-up change. Making the design industry more sustainable is a journey we can all take part in. This is how riivin was born: a resource to help identify responsible options, a tool for designers and design enthusiasts wanting to make more sustainable interior design choices.
