Philosophy
All anooi studio’s activity is a reflection of nourishing spaces: a philosophy that originates from a replenishing and responsible view of design, at the crossroads of biophilic thinking, sustainability, and a deeply attuned design ethos. Nourishing spaces are mindful environments that purposefully enrich people as well as the natural world.
Spaces that replenish human wellbeing.
Spaces that embody and celebrate local specificities.
Spaces that treat nature with respect.
Spaces that blur the lines between man-made and natural.
Spaces that support life in all its forms.

Replenishing for people and nature. Uniting natural and man-made. Supporting all life.
Replenishing and responsible
The spaces we inhabit have an impact on how we feel and behave. Often unconscious, this effect is always present. Nourishing spaces are wellbeing-centered environments that intentionally inspire positive feelings, behaviours, and emotions, spaces that learn from nature’s contribution to the quality of human life, spaces that shape replenishing atmospheres through design.
Incorporating the essence of nature, nourishing spaces connect designed and natural environments while cultivating a deep and balanced relationship between people and the natural world: a relationship that’s nurturing and instructive at once, one that supports our physical and mental wellbeing while reminding us of our relative place in the world.
Nourishing spaces look beyond their boundaries and consider their impact in the grand scheme of things. The desire to enrich nature and people in equal measure translates into a design approach that listens to local place identities, one that orients itself towards environmentally and socially conscious solutions, one that supports life in all its forms.
“Embodying a deeply attuned ethos and evaluating all choices from a wide perspective, nourishing spaces hinge on the people that inhabit them as well as on the planet that hosts us all.”
– Silvia Ceria, Founder
The philosophy in practice
The nourishing spaces philosophy becomes practice through a deeply attuned design approach that begins with the observation of nature and daily life, turning those insights into spaces, objects, writing, and experiences that enrich human and natural wellbeing while deepening the relationship between people and nature.
The making of A Biophilic Year – documented in 30 threads of the creative process – is one example of this approach in practice.
