Observations: sunlight and the passing of time

In a room, objects don’t need to move for the space to be in movement. During one single midsummer day, the shadow of indoor items lengthens and swings across the nearest wall, a patch of sun crosses the floor and climbs the opposite wall, the light through a half-closed shutter narrows and widens as the sun shifts its angle… All without a breath of wind. It’s a quiet dance originating from outside the room, visible only after looking long enough.
A room that welcomes this kind of movement – through openings placed to capture it and surfaces pale enough to reveal it – is a room that feels the day pass, inviting people to do the same.

The Observations grow from a daily habit of noticing details in nature and drawing design insights from them. A habit behind A Biophilic Year and the studio’s work. Collected in a monthly digest as part of anooi’s newsletter.
