Four Chapters Through The Landscape
A sensory walk guided by A Biophilic Year.
Hosted in natural settings, urban gardens, and other aligned venues, the walk follows the book’s four chapters – Connection, Perspective, Experience, Integration – pairing each with a pause in the landscape.
Four pauses, four encounters. Each pause is a moment for reflection and attention, with the book as the starting point. One aphorism, followed by a sensory interaction with the surroundings, chosen specifically for the place. A cultivated edge where nature and human intention meet, a threshold where architecture opens to the landscape, a material or craft detail particular to the place… The walk becomes a way of being present in one’s surroundings and in the moment, experiencing the intersection of people, nature, and design.
For enthusiasts and design professionals. Depending on the audience, the walk can open into more detailed conversations around nature, design, and wellbeing.
The philosophy underneath. One facet of the thinking behind this project is explored in A Biophilic Year Archive’s essay The many effects of walking in nature.
