Observations: summer shade and the experience of space
in Observations

On a summer afternoon, shade in a room leaves room for preference. Spaces that offer both full light and deep shadow are the ones the body often gravitates towards. Not for either quality alone, but because the choice is in itself nourishing.
This is one of the oldest human spatial instincts, the prospect-refuge dynamic transposed in the play of sun and shade.
The Observations grow from a daily habit of noticing details in nature and drawing design insights from them. A habit behind A Biophilic Year and the studio’s work. Collected in a monthly digest as part of anooi’s newsletter.
